Rollercoaster construct-em-ups are part of a somewhat surprising but now venerable genre. With ScreamRide, Frontier Developments makes its mark on the tradition with this Xbox exclusive title. The game packs in tons of content, with more than 60 levels covering three activities - Scream Rider, Engineer and Demolition Expert modes. Scream Rider is a racing mode. Players must get to the end of a rollercoaster track in the fastest, most artful manner possible. You'll need to nail commands with hairs-breadth accuracy to build up boost, nudge the car onto two wheels when obstacles come your way and keep a tight control on your speed to avoid flying into oblivion. It's not too difficult to complete a level, but completing it well enough to unlock further levels will involve fine-tuning your performance to perfection. Demolition Expert is... well, it's probably not what you were expecting from ScreamRide. That doesn't, of course, make it unwelcome. Players must fling amusement ride pods at buildings to try and destroy them. Think Angry Birds, but with roller coasters. As players progress, pods that bounce further, detonate or do any number of other things are introduced. Similarly, environmental obstacles are introduced. The upshot is that you'll need to master the tools at your disposal to demolish the buildings in front of you. Then, of course, there's Engineer mode. In this, players must assemble rollercoasters to strict specifications. With limited materials, they must put together track that links existing sections together and performs at certain speeds, among other things. Get through all the levels and you'll be able to wade into the game's sandbox mode, building whatever track you can imagine and then putting it online for others to test out. So, while there's plenty to make you scream in the game's career, the possibilities online are endless!
