Aspiring New Yorker doctor Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow) finds that the only place he can get a much-needed scholarship is Alaska, in the nowhere town of Cicely. Struggling hard to come to terms with his new home, Fleischman's analytical New York mind constantly questions the locals quirky behaviour, before falling for local girl Maggie O'Connell (Janine Turner).
