Its a Mii, Mario!
Youll never guess what happened in the Mushroom Kingdom this time... Bowser and his minions have taken over Princess Peachs castle again! Now its time for Mario, Luigi, Toad and - for the first time - your Mii character to get you back to the castle and rescue sweet Peach. New Super Mario Bros. U is a brand new installment in the immensely popular New Super Mario Bros. series with new courses, new power-ups and new gameplay.

The brand new Flying Squirrel Mario ability allows you to float slowly through the air, but also cling to walls and perform double jumps. Just like in Super Mario World, there are different colored Yoshis with different abilities, some let you soar into the air while others blow bubbles that the owls get stuck in. And just like Super Mario World, theres one huge world map instead of several separate worlds that are cut off from eachother. Guess if there are many secrets to find?

Thanks to the HD resolution, its easy to recognize the character youre playing as, even when the camera zooms out to give a better overview.

Boost Mode, just like a coin, has two sides
The player using the Wii U GamePad can place temporary platforms for the other players to facilitate (or sabotage!) progress. The platforms can of course be used to land or jump on, but also as extra walls for wall jumping. If you use the Wii U GamePad, you can also hit enemies by pointing at them and manipulate other things in the game environment.

You can play New Super Mario Bros. U with just a Wii Remote if you want, but of course the Wii U GamePad works too. However, Wii Remote controllers are required in multiplayer mode.

When the Wii U GamePad is used to place platforms it is called Boost Mode. Its always up to the player with the Wii U GamePad to help the others reach new records or dump them in the nearest swamp!

Boost Rush
Although New Super Mario Bros. U is a wonderful game that everyone in the family can have fun with, there are special challenges for experienced gamers as well. In Boost Rush, the screen automatically scrolls forward and the more coins you collect, the faster the screen moves! Of course, it pays to collect as many coins as you can and get to the finish line quickly, but it will also place great demands on you as a player to be able to handle the pace. So Boost Rush is not the same as Boost Mode, but you can use Boost Mode in Boost Rush!

Even more challenges in Challenge Mode
In addition to the hectic Boost Rush, there are several other challenges for those of you who are tired of using Boost Mode to help little sister make it through World 1-1! In Time Attack you have to complete the courses as quickly as possible (speed runs) and in 1-Up Rally you have to bounce on enemies without touching the ground and thus collect extra lives. How many lives can you get based on the enemies present?

The winning skull wakes up in Coin Battle Mode
Two to four players split into teams or go their separate ways, then collect as many coins as possible. Here again, another player with the Wii U GamePad can jump in and activate Boost Mode to influence the course of events in the direction he wishes. Maybe he wants to help little brother win, or make sure dad ends up in a safe last place! As you probably understand, you should stay good friends with the guy holding the Wii U GamePad...!
