Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition is an expanded version of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. The game takes place on an icy planet full of snow and ice: EDN III. Humans wanted to colonize this planet, but the native Akrid, an insect-like alien race, didnt see it like that. Since the Akrid are much stronger than humans, the colonists decided to leave the planet. When it was discovered that the Akrid have a powerful thermal energy source, humans decided to fight back.

That fighting back was done with the help of Vital Suits. These Vital Suits are a kind of strong robot suits with heavy weapons. Wayne, the main protagonist in Lost Planet is a Vital Suit pilot. Together with a group of snow pirates he wants revenge on the Akrid. His father, also a Vital Suit pilot, was killed by one of the greatest Akrid. Lost Planet is largely about the Vital Suits. So you will not only go to war against the Akrid on foot, you will also regularly crawl into these robot suits. These come in many different types; some can jump very high and others can turn into a kind of fast snowmobile, for example.

This Colonies Edition contains new content from the original Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. For example, the single player mode includes three new modes: Score Attack, Trial Battle Mode, and Off Limit Mode. In Score Attack you can earn points by destroying enemies and destructible items in different ways. In Trial Battle Mode you take on the bosses of the Lost Planet one by one. In Off Limit Mode you can go wild with over-the-top weapons with infinite ammo and move faster.
